Preparations in full swing for CeBIT 2010

• New keynote topic "Connected Worlds"
• CeBIT 2010 launches innovative interdisciplinary music tradeshow
• New: corporate events at CeBIT
• Spain featured as CeBIT Partner Country in 2010

Munich, Germany. With just over three months to go before the opening of CeBIT 2010, Deutsche Messe views the event as being right on target: "Preparations for CeBIT 2010 are already in full swing. In view of the continued tough global climate, we are experiencing a highly positive response from international ICT markets," declared Reinhold Umminger, Vice President of CeBIT, on Monday, 14 December in Munich. "In some regions, the economy is already beginning to pick up. Additional regions will follow, so that by spring 2010, CeBIT will assume an even greater international role," he commented, adding: "Anyone who wants to achieve new growth has to come to CeBIT: As an exhibitor, to assert your presence and as a visitor, to prepare your investments. Only an international business hub like CeBIT can take a positive mood and convert it into tangible orders and business deals."

ICT sector's innovativeness enables user industries

"The ICT market for the professional and business customer is still characterized by a mood of uncertainty," reported Umminger. He reiterated his confidence that the ICT industry would be among the greatest beneficiaries from an economic upturn. "New advances in ICT will help drive the upturn in virtually every user industry, since the new solutions developed by the ICT industry are progressively more efficient, allowing user enterprises to develop new growth potential in turn. The innovative dynamism of the ICT sector is an enabler for the user industries," concluded Umminger.

CeBIT 2010 RobotExpanded content and new target groups

CeBIT 2010 is also reinforcing its program and attracting new target groups: "Connected Worlds" is the keynote topic next year. "Machines and devices are becoming progressively more sophisticated, which is leading to the continued convergence of different applications," commented Umminger. He elaborated that the technical availability of established and new offerings on the Web was now possible thanks to increasingly high-capacity networks. "The new BITKOM Broadband World event at CeBIT will reveal the latest developments and showcase this topic, which is important for all European nations," he added.

A new highlight at CeBIT 2010 involves the topic of music. With a special display entitled "CeBIT Sounds!", CeBIT will offer a key new hub for the international music industry in Hall 22. "The music industry's supply chain has become completely digitalized," stated Umminger: "CeBIT will pick up on this development and employ the support of big-name experts from the music industry to launch an innovative, interdisciplinary music tradeshow." CeBIT Sounds! is geared to major and minor record labels, performing artists, media and brands, music hardware and software producers as well as Web companies active in the music sector. Umminger elaborates: "We will be setting up an event stage in the middle of Hall 22 where visitors can enjoy panel discussions, workshops and live performances daily. A special musical highlight is planned for Saturday, the last day of CeBIT."

The organizers of the CeBIT Global Conferences have also invited representatives of the music industry to speak on Saturday, 6 March. This part of the Conferences is devoted to online music dealers, independent and major labels, operator platforms, performing artists and unconventional thinkers. The main topics will include new business models, copyright law and how to combat music piracy. The guests at CeBIT 2010 will include Germany's best-known music producer Mousse T, who will explain how music stars can continue to earn a living and also expound on future business models for the music industry.

New: Companies harness CeBIT to own corporate events

For the first time in 2010, enterprises will also be taking advantage of CeBIT as a platform for their own corporate events. SAP, for example, will be staging its customer conference entitled "SAP World Tour", from 2 to 5 March, parallel to its appearance as a CeBIT exhibitor. For this purpose, SAP will rent and design an exhibition section in Halls 19 and 20. SAP hopes that staging the SAP World Tour simultaneously with CeBIT will result in higher attendance figures both at its customer event and its exhibition stands.

Meanwhile, SAP is maintaining its traditional appearance in Hall 4, where its offerings will comprise the new "SAP Innovations Forum". SAP will also be represented at Public Sector Parc in Hall 9, where it will feature its products and services for the public sector. A new addition consists of the SAP stand in Hall 5 (the "SME hall"), where it will present its solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Spain to leverage CeBIT as international marketplace

Spain will be featured as the Partner at CeBIT 2010. "Our Spanish partners are determined to leverage the opportunities offered by this unique international event," reported Umminger, adding that the Partner Country was going to be highly visible both at the exhibition center and in the host city of Hannover, as Spain showcases its expertise in the ICT sector.

CeBIT radiates optimism

Umminger wrapped up his remarks by stating that it was difficult to offer a prognosis on the exact form CeBIT 2010 would take. "In this tough economic phase, a growing number of companies are deciding things on a quarterly basis," he stated. "We are nevertheless highly confident that the number of exhibitors in 2010 will be in the same range as the previous year."
