Modacalzado + Iberpiel 2009 grants greater prominence to the most exclusive brands

• The fair has changed the dates on which it usually takes place in order not to coincide with the beginning of the long weekend in March and to encourage the attendance of visitors from Spain.

• This edition expects to welcome a larger number of foreign visitors, taking place as it does directly after the rest of the European fairs for the industry.

• The fair will also be concentrated into four halls at the exhibition centre in order to facilitate visitors' circulation and orientation during the fair.

Madrid, 24th Nov 2008 — The twenty-third edition of MODACALZADO + IBERPIEL, the grand Spanish trade showcase for promoting the footwear and leather goods industry, has brought forward its dates to the 17th, 18th and 19th March 2009. By choosing these dates, which include two working days and a Bank Holiday (19th March) in many Spanish regions, the organisers hope to attract a larger number of visitors. According to Pola Iglesias, the fair's Director, the new dates will suit everybody: "Those professionals who habitually attend the fair during the week can continue to do so, whilst members of the trade from Madrid and other regions will find it easier to attend the fair, due to the inclusion of a Bank Holiday".

Furthermore, the fact that MODACALZADO + IBERPIEL will commence just two days after the end of the fair in Germany, means that many of the Asian and Latin American buyers will travel on to the event at Feria de Madrid.

Another important new feature at the next edition of MODALZADO + IBERPIEL will consist of the fair's concentration into four halls. In this respect, all of the latest ideas for the Autumn-Winter 2009/2010 Season from the leading footwear and leather goods companies from Spain and abroad will be presented in Halls 2, 4, 6 and 8 at Feria de Madrid, with the Glamour section being incorporated into Hall 6. This new fair layout will endow the most exclusive segment of the market with a more prominent role and facilitate visitor orientation and circulation throughout the different sections at the event.

In addition, MODACALZADO + IBERPIEL, an event organised by IFEMA in collaboration with the Footwear Industries Federation (FICE) and the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Leather Goods, Travel Items and Related Products (ASEFMA), plans to maintain its International Buyer Programme at its next edition. As at previous editions, the fair will focus on the countries of Eastern Europe and Russia, which currently make up the region of greatest interest to the Spanish footwear and leather goods industry.

Furthermore, in relation to the next edition, the organisers of MODACALZADO + IBERPIEL have set up a campaign to encourage the use of the Internet, both in order to send and receive information concerning the fair and in order to facilitate visitor registration via the Internet. The fair will once again incorporate the Meeting-Point tool on its web page, thus facilitating the search for agents in different countries and Spanish regions and enabling buyers to prepare their visit to the fair prior to the commencement of the event itself. In this respect, simply by indicting the type of product he is looking for and his contact details, the trade user will receive a response from companies taking part at the fair who best match the corresponding needs.

At the first of its two trade events in the year 2009, MODACALZADO + IBERPIEL expects to feature the participation of some 500 Spanish and foreign companies, including the most prestigious Spanish companies both at home and abroad. The fair also expects to welcome 14,000 professionals.

The Last Edition Surpassed All Expectations
At its last edition, which was staged between 25th and 27th September, MODACALZADO + IBERPIEL surpassed all the initial expectations of exhibitors and ended with a relatively high level of satisfaction, in spite of the economic context in which the event took place. The fair brought together some 483 direct exhibitors and more than 1,000 footwear and leather goods brands. It welcomed some 13,312 visitors, 20% of whom attended the fair from abroad.
