GDS Trade Fair - International Trade Fair of the Shoe Industry for Shoes, Shoe Fashion and Shoe Design
1.800 Collections: GDS all Geared Up
Shoe and accessories trends for the coming season as well a concentrated range of communication and sectoral information are at the focus of the forthcoming GDS – International Event for Shoes & Accessories. From 11 to 13 September 765 exhibitors (correct as of 20 August 2009) from 31 countries will be presenting over 1,800 collections for the Spring/Summer 2010 season in the halls of Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. Visitors to GDS will find a very comprehensive market overview of progressive and classic premium brands, strong-selling street and sportswear through to design newcomers, brands with broad market acceptance and children’s shoe collections.
“GDS in September again features a wide range of exciting brands that no shoe shop can really do without,” explained GDS Director Kirstin Deutelmoser at the press conference in the run-up to the event. “We have been working very hard on this over the past few months. In view of the general economic climate the 7% drop in exhibitors, or 50 exhibiting firms, is also very moderate. And it is striking that this development primarily concerns the mid market segment. Strong premium and quality brands plus many new collections are continuing to focus on GDS for their sales and communication.”
The collections new to GDS in September for instance include: Billi Bi, Tretorn, Radical Boot, Rizzo, (Urban Authentic), Go Green, Natalia Blanco, Otto Kern, Porsche Design, Xacata (Superior / Essential), Barrats 1890, Buday Shoes, Chibs, Eduardo G., Gino Bianchi, Künzli All’Tag, Mack James, Profession Bottier (Upper Style), Australia Luxe Collective, Coclico, Gourmet, Mysique, Peak Performance, Post & Co, Sebago, Stephane Kelian and Voile Blanche (White Cubes). Furthermore, manufacturers like Carlafe with Eject Black, Norberto Costa with Vudu Shoes, Flip Flop with Flip Flop Murkudis and Tiggers with Tiggers Blue are launching new collections onto the market and will be presenting these for the first time at GDS. “That manufacturers are bringing exciting innovations onto the market at times like these shows just how lively the shoe business is. There is always something to discover. A visit to GDS is worthwhile just to see these brands alone,” Kirstin Deutelmoser continues. “At the same time though GDS offers visitors a supporting programme which we have now developed further in content terms yet again. For instance, we have set up a central speakers’ area dubbed the Speakers’ Lounge where numerous talks on topical themes will be held on all three days of the fair.”
Extended Supporting Programme: Trend Concept and Speakers’ Lounge
GDS prepares trends and specialist information in professional format for its customers like no other event of its kind. The fair’s supporting programme is primarily aimed at gearing specialist retailers up for their ordering discussions and daily business and at providing them with new ideas and inspirations. The trend statements here are based on extensive analysis: for every new season round table discussions are held with renowned experts and new directions are mapped out. The new core themes, tendencies and trends in fashion are elaborated here in conjunction with social and cultural developments, also in terms of their impact on shoes and accessories. GDS trend themes crystallise from this that then run as a common thread through GDS in the form of shows, varied trend installations, seminars and workshops.
GDS Lifestyle Worlds summarised into Themes
Being proactive in the general economic climate is decisive for GDS’ success in these difficult market times: “We consciously advised our exhibitors to reduce stand space,” explained Kirstin Deutelmoser. “Nothing would have been worse for the mood across the entire shoe sector if suppliers had withdrawn from a marketplace like GDS due to the uncertain economic situation. At present it is crucial to maintain personal dialogue between trade and industry.”
The space reductions also made it possible to summarise the GDS lifestyle worlds more strongly into themed worlds and thereby achieve even better visitor orientation. The ‘Trends Onstage’ show centre will be located in Hall 2. Now representing the strongest section at GDS are young and trendy young brands (+16% on September 2008): the three urban areas at GDS with their varied lifestyle worlds of street fashion, urbanwear and denim brands can be found grouped together in Hall 3. This is also where Design Attack’s creative newcomer collections congregate. The progressive brands in the White Cubes community will now all attract a discerning audience together with the two other premium areas Upper Style and Prime Square, located altogether in concentrated form in Hall 4. Famous high-quality international brands will again be featured in the Superior segment in Hall 5 which, together with Hall 6’s renowned exhibitors in the Essential section, form the backbone of GDS. Exhibitors featuring children’s shoe brands are located with Kidwalk in Hall 7a. Shop & Deco exhibitors as well as bag and accessories in the Bagccess Zone will remain in Hall 7.0.
