International Contemporary Furniture Fair 2010

International Contemporary Furniture FairWhat's a good idea without a material expression? And what's a problem without a material solution? Not much, when it comes to the design industry. That's why there's no greater resource for ever-inquisitive designers and designer-watchers than Materials Matter. GLM's annual joint venture with Material ConneXion, Inc., Materials Matter always delighted, amazes, and surprises even the most up-to-date practitioners with its showcase of next-generation materials and innovative production tools. Materials on display this year will include polymers, glass, ceramics, carbon-based materials, cement-based materials, metals, natural materials, and natural material derivatives; processes shown in detail will range from injection molding to rapid prototyping and more. Given that Material ConneXion is dedicated to putting designers and manufacturers together with new technologies and new production processes, it is constantly updating its resource libraries on three continents – libraries that at any one time contain as many as 4,000 materials from a wide array of fields and disciplines. Materials do matter because, as Material ConneXion demonstrates time and time again, creative solutions result from serendipity and cross-fertilization.

During the Fair's four days, 145,000 net square feet (14,500 net square meters) of the Javits Center will bustle with more than 24,000 interior designers, architects, retailers, designers, manufacturers, representatives, distributors, and developers. Members of the general public are welcome on Tuesday, May 18 when the ICFF is open to all comers.
