ARTPARIS+GUESTS: a fair with a new format |
New horizons
and gallery owners curating exhibitions… |
Whether it be painting, sculpture, drawing, video, performance, or installation, contemporary art is becoming increasingly permeable to fields such as architecture, fashion, gastronomy, music, literature, cinema, etc. areas that we are not accustomed to seeing in galleries but in which the act of creation is paramount.
The art market continues its march toward globalization, and scenes in the emerging phase or that are already established are continuously interacting on the international level.
► ARTPARIS+GUESTS: a fair with a new format
From 18 to 22 March 2010, the modern and contemporary art fair ARTPARIS+GUESTS will offer a new exhibition format, in the likeness of the horizontal dynamics that are driving artists, gallery owners, and collectors.
Indeed, some one hundred French and international exhibitors are invited to join forces with partners - “Guests” - to underscore the crisscrossing approaches of contemporary creation. In addition, ARTPARIS+GUESTS is opening up to platforms dedicated to art scenes at the height of their development in order to broaden our horizons.
As a sign of this new drive, ARTPARIS+GUESTS is presenting the visual identity designed by the Jean Grisoni studios, which will accompany this development with “Just Art” as its motto.
► Cultural platforms…
Indonesia, Russia, Africa, Scandinavia, etc. the art scenes of these geographic and cultural regions are greatly revitalizing local galleries and art centres, and are now effervescing on the international level. ARTPARIS+GUESTS is entrusting collectors and players in the art world with the mission of presenting the core forces of the art world. For instance, collector Deddy Kusuma will bring us his perspective on contemporary Indonesian art.
Alongside this Indonesian platform, two studios of imaginary collectors plunge the visitor
into the heart of very active galleries, the worlds of which are put on display.
• The “Rive Gauche” studio gathers the Parisian galleries In Situ-Fabienne Leclerc,
Jousse Entreprises, Laffanour Down-Town, Hervé Loevenbruck, and Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois…
• … whereas the international studio gathers Aeroplastics Contemporary (Brussels),
Bongoût (Berlin), Riccardo Crespi (Milano), la Galerie J (Geneva) and Eric Mircher
(Paris).
►… and gallery owners curating exhibitions
On the occasion of ARTPARIS+GUESTS, gallery owners are invited to bring in “guests”
from different fields of creation to build up, as associated curators, an event which
emphasizes inventiveness and art crossovers.

Vieille du Temple gallery and fashion
The gallery Vieille du Temple (Paris) is partnering with the great couturier Franck Sorbier to merge high fashion, painting, photo, and interactive video. “Franck Sorbier has always been sensitive to art, to the point of putting “nods” to art in his creations: early art, Italian primitives, Yves Klein, Calder… We felt that Franck Sorbier was an obvious choice because we were certain he would know how to give a new breath of life to the painted works of Guy de Malherbe, Jeff Kowatch, and Herta Müller, and to the photos and interactive video of Hanna Haaslahti by having them enter into a dialogue with his own creations. Each of Franck Sorbier’s creations will be chosen for the resonance it provokes in the approach of each of these artists in the gallery,” explains Marie-Hélène de la Forest Divonne.

Nathalie Gaillard gallery and advertising
Based on the observation that artists and agency talent continuously rub shoulders and interact, the Nathalie Gaillard gallery (Paris) is inviting PUBLICIS DIALOG to make a
contribution at its stand with the aim of dispelling the perception people have of works of art, thanks to innovative and interactive technology. The interactive system designed by the creative talent of Publicis Dialog invites people to communicate with the spectacular works of Aurèle (born in 1963), Bernard Pras (born in 1952), and Robert Combas (born in 1957).

Lélia Mordoch gallery and design
The Lélia Mordoch gallery (Paris) is partnering with Espaces 54 where Juliette
Aittouarès is promoting design by building a kinetic house at the stand inspired by Jacques Tati. There, you will find paintings from the sixties, furniture by Romain Minar, sculptures, collectible objects that play with graphic lines, colours, and movement in a spirit of constructivism. The optical art works of Julio Le Parc, Horacio Garcia Rossi, François Morellet, Francisco Sobrino, or Jesús Rafael Soto thus converse with design pieces for which they were the source of inspiration.
