Art Chicago™, One of World's Foremost Contemporary and Modern Art Fairs, Announces 2009 Dates
CHICAGO (June 3, 2008) – The 29th edition of Art Chicago, May 1-4, 2009, (Opening Preview on Thursday, April 30) at The Merchandise Mart, will align with the Museum of Contemporary Art’s exhibition, Take your time: Olafur Eliasson, opening Friday, May 1, 2009 at the MCA.
“The partnerships that Art Chicago has made with the city’s top cultural institutions, collectors and civic leaders echo our conviction that Chicago is an important destination city for the arts,” said Tony Karman, vice president of Art Chicago.
Art Chicago 2008 drew a record 50,000+ curators, collectors and arts enthusiasts to the 4 day April fair, and delivered a strong, balanced and diverse survey of contemporary and modern art. Companion fair NEXT was lauded for its cutting-edge, curatorial presentation of some of the most provocative trends in contemporary art. NEXT 2009 will likewise be produced at The Mart during the May 1-4 weekend.
“The art world’s attention will be on Chicago next year,” Karman added, “with the Eliasson opening at the MCA, the grand opening of the new Modern Wing at the Art Institute, and the exceptional roster of international galleries that Art Chicago and NEXT promise to once again bring to our culturally-rich city. The synergy is perfect.”
Drawn from collections worldwide, the Olafur Eliasson presentation includes sculptures, photographs and immersive environments that elegantly recreate the landscape in his native Scandinavia. The exhibit spans over 15 years of Eliasson's career. The show will run through September 13, 2009 at the MCA, Chicago.
