Alexander Gray presents a work by the Latin American conceptual artist Luis Camnitzer (born 1937), titled “Last Words,” compiling the final words of death-row inmates in Texas, and remixing them into a lyrical, touching piece. Ai Weiwei (born 1957) will present a new chandelier work, "Cube Light," in the booth of Urs Meile. Yukinori Maeda (born 1971) will install the environment “Light Deposit” at Taka Ishii Gallery, working with light and sound. Bortolami Gallery will present site-specific installations by Eric Wesley (born 1973) and Aaron Young (born 1972), who both incorporate urban materials and themes in their art.
Shugoarts mounts new paintings by Naofumi Maruyama (born 1964). The current project by Cao Guimarães (born 1965) encompasses a new film and 5 new photographs at Gallery Nara Roesler. The artists Evan Holloway (born 1967), Lisa Oppenheim (born
1975) and Michael Queenland (born 1970) share an interest in challenging the historical
traditions of their chosen media, and thus the booth of Harris Lieberman will explore the
intersection of photography and sculpture.
gb agency will present a curated booth with recent works by Robert Breer (born 1926),
Roman Ondak (born 1966) and Yann Sérandour (born 1974) in order to link those three
universes. Gallery Nicolai Wallner presents Joachim Koester (born 1964) who will show
a new series of black-and-white photos consisting of close-ups of hemp plants, alongside Jonathan Monk (born 1969) presenting a new series of conceptual paintings that appropriate from John Baldessari. David Kordansky Gallery presents a two-person
exhibition with Los Angeles-based artists Aaron Curry (born 1972) and Amy Bessone
(born 1970) positing a fluid boundary between “high” and “low” culture.
The booth of Nature Morte / Bose Pacia features four artists from India: Alexis Kersey
(born 1972), Pushpamala N. (born 1956) and the collaborative duo of Thukral & Tagra
(born 1976/78), all responding to Indian popular culture in their own way. Sommer
Contemporary Art presents the gallery's Israeli women artists Yael Bartana (born 1970),
Yehudit Sasportas (born 1969), and Alona Harpaz (born 1971).
With his oil portraits at Freedman Gallery, Michael Fullerton (born 1971) poses rhetorical questions regarding the issue of the subject/object relationship. Galeria Marilia Razuk presents three brazilian artists: Cabelo (born 1967), who shows an installation, Debora Bolsoni (born 1975) presenting ceramic pieces and Rodrigo Andrade (born 1962) presenting new paintings.
Mezzanin will install a film by Sturtevant (born 1930) projected from a rotating platform.
Reena Spaulings Fine Art shows new sculptures and assemblages by Nora Schultz
(born 1975), recent sculptural and wall-based works by Seth Price (born 1973) and
a new site-specific work by the performance artist Ei Arakawa (born 1977). Taxter
& Spengemann propose New York sculptor Frank Benson (born 1976) who presents
“Chocolate Fountain” (2008), a life-size stainless steel and aluminium replica of the popular party sculpture, and small-scale paintings by Zurich-based artist David Chieppo (born 1973).
ProjecteSD present a selection of works by the artists Iñaki Bonillas (born 1981) and
Raimond Chaves (born 1963) in collaboration with Gilda Mantilla (born 1967); all three
work with different media and work concepts but share in their artistic practise the aesthetics of the archive. Vitamin Creative Space is installing a project by Zheng Guogu (born 1970) titled “Private Photo Gate,“ which is based on the scandal around actor and singer Edison Chen, who admitted to being the author of many intimate porn photographs on the internet showing him with different women. The 2008 scandal received high-profile media attention in Hong Kong and shook the entertainment industry as well as the general public.
