Miami Fashion Week 2007

MIAMI, FL (APRIL 19, 2007) – Miami Fashion Week®, the official fashion event for the City of Miami and the largest Latin American fashion event in the US with a crossover of International designers, decorated the Wynwood Arts District with culture and couture this past weekend, with over 60 of the world’s most talented fashion designers in women’s eveningwear and prêt-a-porter, swimwear, lingerie, men’s wear, jewelry and accessories. Held at The Soho Studios Wynwood Pavilion in Miami’s new Wynwood Arts District, this spectacular event brought together fashion, beauty, music and art with a crossover of international style and culture from designers, entertainers and celebrities from all over the world including Spain, India and Italy among others.

The Soho Studios Wynwood Pavilion sizzled with sexiness and attitude as Miami Fashion Week® kicked off with the Miami Style Showcase featuring Miami’s brightest young design stars Julian Chang, Ana Maria Guiulfo, Susan Elias, Frivole and Nicolas Felizola. More designers presenting their latest collections were Cecilia Perez, Elia Abuchaibe, Jeronima Palacio, Monica Bursztyn, Nazly Villamizar and John Estrada from Colombia, Miranda T, Pampacorral, Pimpi Smith, Sandra Galarza, GIA and Wawas from Argentina, Brazil’s Aline Alcântara and Silvia Ulson, Nigeria’s Adefunke Adegbola for Ella Brown Couture, Romania’s Evelina Gambino for Gambino Apparel, Silvia Fassardi and Twinestones all based in the US, Panama’s Federico Visuetti and Jaime Luna, Bolivia’s Jose Galindo for Ayne Jewelers, India’s Suhani Pittie, Chandni Munjal and Falguni & Shane Peacock, Mexico’s Julia y Renata, José Maria Torre and Marvin & Quetzal, Italy’s Fernando Bustamante, Spain’s Frans Baviera, Carlos Moya, Raquel Tomillo, Eulalia Mateos Guzman, SOON and Lola Casademunt, Venezuela’s Algimiro Palencia and Kim Riedel from the Caribbean islands of The Bahamas plus many more designers from throughout the US and Latin America.

Always a high light of Miami Fashion Week® are the student showcases featuring the top graduating students of A.i. Miami International University of Art & Design and the Universidad Autónoma del Caribe from Barranquilla Colombia.

The Miami Fashion Week® Special Guest and 2007 Designer of the Year was Lecoanet Hemant (LH) famed designer duo of Frenchman Didier Lecoanet and Indo-German Hemant Sagar. With a career that began in Paris and spanning over two decades, they have been the recipients of many international awards including "The Golden Thimble Award" for the most creative and Elegant Collection of the Haute Couture season in Paris in 1994, the "Swarovski Creation Prize of the City of Paris" in 2005, among many others. LH recently relocated to India to set up an exclusive manufacturing and production of the Lecoanet Hemant collections inspired by their years of Haute Couture in Paris, and also manufacture and partially design collections for other prestigious brands including: Kenzo, Ines de La Fressange and Pierre Balmain. Hemant, the menswear designer of the duo launched his much anticipated men's collection along with the latest women's line at Miami Fashion Week®. After Sagar’s spectacular show that stunned the crowd, Sagar cheerfully received his award while sporting some of his long awaited menswear.

Closing the week-long fashion celebration was the star-studded Miami Moda & Music Awards® hosted by Candela Ferro and Alfonso (Poncho) de Anda. Throughout the week all of the designers flooded the stage with remarkable pieces and presented the latest fashions from their line. The Excellence in Eveningwear Award went to Ximena Valero, Mexico/USA and who better to feature the sexy line than the winner of the Miami Fashion Week® Top Model Award, Raquel Balencia. DMG Fashion from Columbia accepted the Prêt-A-Porter Style Award as top Brazilian designer Tereza Santos left with the Designer’s Choice Award. Both Cadillac and Lalique presented their own special awards; the Cadillac Luxury Lifestyle Award given to Maria LaFuente from Spain and the Lalique Diamond Accessories award granted to Ana Maria Gutierrez from Costa Rica. The many Latin performers also showing off their amazing talents included Anjuli Stars, AIKO, Andres Cepeda, Alicastro, Erika Ender and tenor Raul Reimer. Latina pop recording artist, Cynthia Castro received the award for Celebrity Style in Music.

The four-day event included a spectacular exhibition by contemporary artist Maximo Caminero from the and Miami featuring pieces from his Una Breve Miranda collection of original works. Also included are educational seminars on international trends forecasting and entering the US market by Global Purchasing Group sponsored by Lalique, a business panel discussion sponsored by Citibank, moderated by Charlotte Gallogly, President of the World Trade Center in Miami, with a variety of international industry leaders including the world’s largest apparel law firm; Sandler, Travis and Rosenberg, P.A. and international apparel distributor; IMEX Trading. Also included were celebrity appearances by Latin heart throb, Erick Elias, America’s Next Top Model, Anchal Joseph, Riding in Cars with Boys star, Vincent DePaul, and a special appearance by Despacho de la Primera Dama Vivian Fernandez de Torrijos, the First Lady of Panama. The festivities continued with VIP after parties at Miami Beach ’s hottest venues including Cameo, The Fifth and The Setai Courtyard that ran till the wee hours of the morning. More than 600 international media representatives from over 36 countries covered this incredible fashion and entertainment event.
